The A66 has been closed in both directions to high-sided vehicles between the A1(M) at Scotch Corner and the M6 at Penrith.
National Highways confirmed the restrictions on Sunday afternoon (December 14), after gusts of wind were recorded reaching 55mph.
Motorists travelling between the North East and North West are being advised to use alternatives including the A69 or M62 instead, or to consider delaying journeys until conditions improve.

A spokesperson from National Highways said: “Due to wind gusts of 55 mph being recorded on this route we've had to close the A66 trans-Pennine route to high sided vehicles again.
"Road users travelling across the Pennines are advised to plan and consider alternate routes.”
