West Bengal authorities on Sunday sent the promoter and main organiser of Argentine football icon Lionel Messi’s G O A T India Tour 2025 to 14 days of police custody, a day after large-scale chaos and vandalism erupted at a packed event in Kolkata.

Shatadru Dutta, the principal organiser of the Messi event, was produced before the Bidhannagar court after his arrest in connection with alleged mismanagement and public disorder at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, also known as the Salt Lake Stadium. As he was brought to court, BJP workers staged a protest outside, raising slogans and accusing the organisers of cheating spectators.
