Former Waterville firefighter writes two books on department

WATERVILLE, Maine (WABI) - The Waterville Fire Department has been around for more than two centuries. Through the department’s history, there have been plenty of people to meet and stories to be told.

“It was put together by me, but the book is the fire department’s book, it’s the city of Waterville’s book for people to read and understand the department and all the stuff that they did and went through,” said Scott Holst.

Holst spent more than 40 years as a firefighter, including three decades as a member of the Waterville Fire Department. When he began the career at the age of 21, it didn’t take long for him to fall in love with the profession.

“The idea for me was not the adrenaline that you get from the call, which is part of it, but to me it’s the helping who you were called for,”
