A nearly 140-year-old bridge crossing the River Spey has partially collapsed this morning. The Spey Viaduct, which formed part of the popular Speyside Way walking route collapsed into the river on Sunday December 14. ‌

Police have taped off the bridge near Garmouth and have been pictured standing guard nearby. Photos of the viaduct taken this morning show one of the spans on the eastern side of the bridge twisted and fallen into the river. ‌

Most of the bridge, also known as the Garmouth Viaduct, remains standing. Moray Council advised the bridge will be closed until further notice while members of the public are being asked to keep their distance and to not cross the police cordon. ‌
