COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A violent tragedy that has become all too common in this country hit close to home for Michigan basketball player Will Tschetter.

A student at Tschetter’s alma mater, Stewartville (Minnesota) High School, was shot on Friday on school grounds before the suspect died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities.

“You hear about things happening like this across our country. It’s just ridiculously sad,” Tschetter said inside Xfinity Center on Saturday night after playing nine minutes in Michigan’s win over Maryland . “It’s just something that you never really expect, like, ‘Oh, that might happen to me.’

“When it actually does affect the people that you know, that you grew up with, it just hits that much deeper.”
