The person of interest taken into custody in connection with the mass shooting that killed two people and wounded nine others at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, previously lived in Wisconsin, public records revealed.
Multiple sources told NBC News 24-year-old Benjamin Erickson was detained as a person of interest. On Sunday afternoon, police said he could face charges in the coming hours.
Public records showed that as of 2024, Erickson's residence was an apartment in Washington, D.C., and that he previously lived in Wisconsin.
Erickson served as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from May 2021 to November 2024, according to a statement from Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ruth Castro.
Authorities are looking into what could be an extensive mental health history for Erickson,
