A Chicago firefighter was injured during a two-alarm house fire on Sunday afternoon in the city's Hegewisch neighborhood, prompting a mayday call.
The fire was reported before 4:15 p.m. at a residence in the area of East 135th Street and South Avenue M.
The Chicago Fire Department shared photos on social media of more than a dozen firefighters working at the scene as smoke billowed from the structure. In the post, CFD said a mayday was initially declared but was later struck out.
One firefighter sustained a minor lower leg injury and was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in fair-to-serious condition, officials said. No other injuries were reported.
The fire remained under investigation as of Sunday evening.
