FLINT, MI -- More voters cast write-in ballots in the race to elect a new 3rd Ward Flint City Council member than voted for either of two candidates on the ballot on Tuesday, Aug. 5, according to unofficial results from the Genesee County Clerk’s Office.
That’s good news for LaShawn Johnson, who staged an aggressive campaign in an effort to win the vacant council seat and was the only registered write-in candidate in the race.
Unofficial county results showed 328 unassigned write-in votes in the 3rd Ward on Tuesday, followed by Beverly Biggs-Leavy, who received 225, and A.C. Dumas, who received 192.
