The drink-driving limit in England and Wales could be cut.

The drink-driving threshold in England and Wales may be reduced as part of a comprehensive Government initiative to enhance road safety.

Officials are preparing a new strategy for the autumn, which could represent the most sweeping overhaul of motoring legislation since the Road Safety Act in 2006.

The proposals involve reducing the drink-drive threshold from 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath to 22 micrograms, bringing it in line with Scotland's existing standard.

Additional measures being examined include mandatory vision tests for motorists aged over 70, stricter sanctions for drivers whose passengers don't buckle up, and a clampdown on uninsured motorists and "ghost plates" that evade camera detect
