CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A newly formed grassroots group of Charlotte-area therapists is pushing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and Mecklenburg County leaders to fix what they say is a three-year backlog in testing rape kits.
The mental health professionals, known as Therapists for Change, say sexual assault survivors are telling them they're being denied justice.
“Be loud and someone will listen,” said Emily Reiner, a mental health counselor who’s part of the group.
The therapists say they’re speaking up for those who can’t.
“It’s very upsetting, it’s very upsetting,” said Kaci Pennington, a mental health counselor, who started the group.
The therapists want to tackle issues important to their clients.
