COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) -- Longtime prosecutor David Pascoe has entered the Republican race to become South Carolina's next attorney general.

Pascoe, who has served as 1st Circuit Solicitor since 2005, made his bid official during the Daniel Island Republican Club Breakfast on Monday, saying the state was at a crossroads.

"We can keep going down the path of rising crime, unchecked corruption, and weak leadership, or we can fight back, and I'm going to fight back," he said. "I stand here today, not just with a record but with a vision to make South Carolina the safest, least corrupt state in America."

Pascoe, 58, was chosen as the special prosecutor in a 2014 State House corruption probe that ultimately led to the indictments of several Republican lawmakers, including former House Speaker
