KAPOLEI, Hawaii (Island News) – An unattended death case has been initiated after human remains were found after a brush fire took place in the Kapolei area.

Early Tuesday morning, just after 1:30 a.m., Honolulu Police Department (HPD) officers responded with the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) to a brush fire in the area of 4451 Kapolei Pkwy.

Approximately 20 minutes after the fire was deemed under control, a body was discovered.

The human remains were found inside a makeshift structure that was located within a known homeless encampment in the area.

HPD reported that an autopsy confirmed that the body that was found was not dismembered and that there is currently no indication of foul play.
