SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Guatemalan national who was living in West Springfield was sentenced for possession of a forged immigration document and reentering the U.S. illegally.

In a news release sent to 22News from the Department of Justice, 33-year-old Jose Martinez-Lopez was arrested on March 10th in West Springfield for assault and battery on a police officer. In his possession, he had a forged permanent resident card in the name of “Amalio Mendez-Molina.”

Following his arrest, Martinez-Lopez admitted that he re-entered the U.S. illegally in 2021. He was then taken into custody by immigration officials.
