BOSTON (WWLP) - A New Bedford couple has been charged with defrauding clients of over $700,000 through their insurance business, BL Insurance Brokerage, LLC.

In a news release from the Department of Justice in Massachusetts, 58-year-old Brendan Lawler and 45-year-old Lisa Lawler were arrested for allegedly engaging in a scheme to collect insurance payments from clients without forwarding them to the appropriate insurance providers.

The couple is accused of using client payments for personal purposes instead of paying the clients' insurance providers. To maintain the appearance of legitimacy, they allegedly used new client funds to pay off balances owed to other clients' insurers.
