MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A man is recovering after being hit by a vehicle while crossing the street in Monroe Sunday night, police say.

Around 9 p.m., Monroe officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

According to witness statements and the driver involved, a pedestrian was crossing W. Roosevelt Blvd. towards QuikTrip when he was struck. The driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to, police say.

The pedestrian, identified as Tyler Stegall, 28, of Monroe, was transported to Atrium Health in Charlotte for treatment. Officials say he is expected to survive his injuries.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the primary cause of the crash appears to be that the man was in the middle of the roadway.
