SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - It was the first day for the Sioux City Community School District.

Incoming 8th-grade student Jerrell Angerman is one of 14,000 students who are back in school for the 25-26 school year.

Jerrell said, “Had to wake up way earlier than I usually do.”

Associate Superintendent Angela Bemus visited East Middle School on the first day to hand out twin bings to teachers and Chick-fil-A coupons to some students. Bemus explained, “We are ready for them. We’re ready to greet them. Ready to get them here, ready to teach them.”

This was a role that was supposed to be done by the current Superintendent for his first day of school with the district, but on Friday, the school board approved a request for a Leave of Absence for Dr. Juan Córdova.
