MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tuesday morning that the situation on West Virginia University’s downtown campus has been resolved and the area is secure.

Monongalia County Sheriff Todd Forbes said deputies conducted a thorough search of the campus and found no evidence of an active shooter.

“The initial report appears to have been a false,” Forbes stated.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office released a statement acknowledging the response.

“The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office is aware of the situation on the downtown campus of West Virginia University,” the office said. “We have units on scene along with other agencies. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.”

Law enforcement had advised the public
