Kenai residents are being urged to stay alert after a woman was attacked by a bear early Tuesday morning near Pillars Boat Launch and Chinook Drive.
According to Alaska Wildlife Troopers, the attack occurred around 5:45 a.m. while the victim was jogging in the area. Lieutenant Christopher Jaime, Deputy Commander of the Alaska Wildlife Troopers’ Northern Detachment, described the incident as a “pretty vicious bear attack.” He said the woman was injured but did not provide details on her condition.
Authorities believe the bear may have been a brown bear, though no one saw the animal directly.
Troopers, Kenai Police, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game responded to the scene. Officials are now searching the area with drones and personnel in hopes of locating the bear.
