Governor Mike Dunleavy has appointed Stephen J. Cox as Alaska’s next Attorney General, effective August 29. The appointment will be submitted to the Alaska Legislature for confirmation during the 2026 session.
Cox has experience in both federal and state legal roles. He previously served as a U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas and Deputy Associate Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice. Most recently, he worked in the private sector as Chief Legal and Strategy Officer at Bristol Bay Industrial, an Alaska-based company.
“Stephen Cox brings a wealth of experience to the Attorney General’s office, and I am confident in his ability to serve Alaskans well,” Governor Dunleavy said.
