The City Council Tuesday called on Port of Los Angeles police officers to join community members in documenting federal immigration enforcement activity in the Harbor Area, with the goal of collecting evidence that could be submitted in court.

Council members unanimously approved a motion from Councilman Tim McOsker, who represents the 15th District, which includes the Harbor Area and South Los Angeles. The measure initially sought details from port officials about protocols related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, as well as guidelines for communicating about future ICE activity in and around the port.

According to the councilman’s motion, the goal is to ensure accountability and protect the rights of residents, workers and community members.
