MANISTEE – “We better be ready, right? We’re down to two days (one as this is printed),” Manistee football head coach Alvin Rischel said prior to Tuesday’s practice in the final days before the Mariners kick off the 2025 season at Remus-Chippewa Hills on Thursday.

Rischel added that practice has gone pretty well since it started over week ago now, with a few things still to fix here and there.

The Mariners got a taste of game action, although on a reduced scale, at the pre-season scrimmage at Kingsley where they took on the Stags and Manton, a couple of quality programs.

“Defensively, I thought we played pretty physically, and did a few things,” Rischel said. “Offensively, we moved the ball.

“We just need to fine tune a few things, and things to where we want them to be.
