OMAHA, Neb. —

An amendment approved by the Omaha City Council Tuesday will provide $150,000 in funding for four Omaha food banks.

The funding is from a contract with the city of Kearney and Big Red Keno. The funding must be used on a community service fund, according to the council. Councilman Pete Festersen proposed that the money be used on the food pantries, which included Food Bank for the Heartland, Saving Grace Perishable Food Rescue, Together Inc. and Heart Ministry Center.

All four nonprofits spoke about the need for funding at the City Council meeting on Tuesday.
