OLD LYME, Conn — An Old Lyme home was destroyed after a fire broke out early Wednesday morning.
The home on Brookside Avenue, described as a seasonal cottage by officials, caught fire around 1:45 a.m. When the crews arrived at the scene, they found that the home was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to put out the flames 45 minutes later. The heat from the blaze caused thermal damage to a neighboring home, according to officials. Neighboring departments helped Old Lyme firefighters in the firefight.
No one was inside the home at the time, and no firefighters were reported to have been injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Old Lyme Fire Marshal's office.
