It’s time to replenish the Effie Kokrine Charter School Food Pantry.

The pantry, dubbed “Ashton’s Nest” is used to help feed school families who are experiencing food insecurities. It also helps provide food for school celebrations, such as the Howard Luke Birthday potlatch and other special events.

The pantry is named after Aston Ishnook, a former student. He loved food and feeding his family and friends. He believed that no kid should go hungry and made sure his friends were always fed. He died in April 2020, just weeks before his graduation from Effie Kokrine Charter School. Three of his siblings have since graduated from the school and have become some of the strongest volunteers for the pantry, along with his mother, Sharon Ishnook.
