Alaska’s U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan says the state is poised to benefit from the largest Coast Guard expansion in American history — a move he argues is essential not only for jobs and infrastructure but for national security on the nation’s northernmost frontier.
In a sit-down interview with KSRM News Director Nick Sorrell last week, Sullivan said a sweeping infrastructure and defense bill he helped author includes major investments in the Coast Guard.
“Sixteen icebreakers, 22 cutters, 40 helicopters,” Sullivan said. “The Coast Guard has been doing more with less for like half a century. A 40-year-old helicopter? A 55-year-old cutter? Wrong answer. Our Coast Guard men and women deserve better.”
