A man suspected of fleeing the country after allegedly killing his wife in Lancaster was in custody Wednesday after surrendering to authorities in Peru.

The 36-year-old man, identified by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office as Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo, was charged last week with murder in connection with the death of Sheylla Cabrera, 33, who was the subject of a missing person report made Aug. 12 to the sheriff’s Lancaster Station. It was unclear when he might be returned to Los Angeles.

It was unclear exactly when the suspect surrendered, but the sheriff’s department was notified Wednesday morning that he was in custody, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
