HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A moped rider is in serious condition after colliding with a Honolulu police car on Kapiolani Boulevard.
The crash happened at around 4 a.m. on Wednesday near the intersection of Kapiolani Boulevard and Pensacola Street.
According to the Honolulu Police Department, an HPD officer was traveling southbound on Pensacola Street with blue lights and sirens activated, and disregarded the red light at the intersection.
HPD said the officer’s vehicle collided with a 25-year-old male moped operator who was traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Boulevard.
As a result of the collision, the 25-year-old moped operator was ejected onto the roadway.
EMS transported the victim to hospital in serious condition.
Police said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
