GREER, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Officials broke ground on Wednesday morning on a new multi-million dollar sports and events center.
The $60 million project is being built near the intersection of South Buncombe Road and Buddy Avenue to accommodate the growing community around Greer.
The primary goal of the center, which will include a basketball court, e-sports facility, and batting cages, is to provide space for recreational and athletic programming.
But Greer Mayor Rick Danner said the project is about more than just sports.
“It’s not just a sports and events center,” he said. “This is a stimulator for a lot of other things and I think we’re going to see economic development and a lot of growth in this area as a result of this building.”
The complex is expected to open in 2027.
