TYLER, Texas — The Tyler City Council on Wednesday approved zoning changes for a wholesale store to move forward with the construction process and expand into East Texas.

Councilmembers voted in favor of the recommendations from the city of Tyler Planning and Zoning Commission to grant zoning changes to an area at South Broadway Ave. and West Cumberland Road.

BJ's Wholesale Club, a membership-based store similar to Sam's Club or Costco, is seeking to develop the land into one of its first Texas locations.

The vote Wednesday finalized a zoning change to allow for the store on two pieces of land as well as a special use permit to allow for fuel sales.
