NEW FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - Officials are closing all 12 public islands at Candlewood Lake.

Locals are blaming out-of-towners for the islands closing.

On nice weekends, they say 100 or more people will go to the islands to throw large parties that last all night long.

If you are cruising down Candlewood Lake this weekend, you may witness the Lake Authority taking action.

They have started to put fencing up, along with signs that read “Do Not Enter -- Island Closed.”

“People are packing the island. They’re bringing generators, grills, propane tanks, 100 or more people out here,” said State Rep. Patrick Callahan, New Fairfield.

State Rep. Patrick Callahan has lived on Candlewood Lake for 30 years and served as chairman of the Lake Authority for 15 years.
