ALLEGAN COUNTY, MI -- Southbound U.S. 131 in northern Allegan County is expected to be closed until late Friday after a semi-struck caused major damage to an overpass.
The truck struck the 146th Avenue overpass about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26 and structurally damaged three steel beams.
Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson John Richard said the crash caused some of the worst beam damage he’s seen.
Richard said he’s been told the driver was coming from a cement-related operation in the Grand Rapids area and the truck also “scraped” the bottoms of two other bridges on M-6.
Those bridges were at least 16-foot, 3-inches high.
The bridge at 146th Avenue is 14-feet, 2 inches high.
MDOT supervisors closed southbound U.S. 131 after 84th Street after the crash. Traffic is being
