EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Ahead of International Overdose Awareness Day, state and local leaders gathered Wednesday in East Hartford to highlight the town's newest community health and safety initiatives.

East Hartford recently installed five public-access Narcan vending cabinets and 10 AED boxes around town.

"It is my hope that no family ever has to experience what my family went through," East Hartford Mayor Connor Martin (D) said. "And I know that by working together, we can make that a reality and minimize the loss of life in our community."

The town has plans to increase training sessions for people to attend as well.
