SCOTTVILLE – Looking to expand on the successes of last season, the Mason County Central varsity football team has been waiting to get back to action.

On Thursday, the Spartans get their chance when they head to Lakeview for a 7 p.m. clash with the Wildcats.

Despite having little tape on Lakeview, MCC is getting after it in practice.

“Players are working hard and excited for an actual game,” Spartans head coach Dave Smith said. “Being the first game, it is more difficult to prepare for another team without all the film you will have during the rest of the season.”

Last season, MCC finished the regular season at 8-2 and secured its place in the Michigan High School Athletic Association’s Division 6 playoffs. It was the best season for the Spartans since 2015, when they won seven games
