“It smells so fresh, like a garden in a cup,” Times Leader page designer and taste tester Lyndsay Bartos described the gazpacho I brought to the office earlier this week.
“I could drink this all day,” said page designer Ashley Bringmann.
“I am really enjoying this,” said advertising director Diane McGee.
Based on those comments, you’d think the cool summery soup, made from tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, green onions, a red pepper and basil, was a hit.
But about an hour earlier, it was hard to get anyone to even sample a spoonful. After hearing five other people tell me “no, thanks” in the newsroom, sportwriter Kevin Carroll seemed to feel bad for me and agreed to try it.
“I’m not crazy about it,” he said after sampling. “But it’s not bad by any stretch of the imagination.”
