KUNIA, Hawaii (Island News) -- The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) arrested and charged a 70-year-old man in connection with the brush fire authorities said was intentionally set on Saturday in Kunia.
HPD credited wildfire cameras, social media and an off-duty officer with helping to take down the suspected arsonist Antonio Vierra.
There were eight fires in the Kunia/Wahiawa area from Aug. 11 to Aug. 23. A number of agencies, including the Office of the State Fire Marshal, were involved in this case
The latest brush fire started Saturday morning, Aug. 23, and according to authorities, the fire got within 300 yards of residential homes in the area.
