Union officials say they can’t approve a request from a local business owner to ban some procedures on animals.

At the Aug. 18 meeting of the Parks, Buildings, Development and Public Service Committee, Jesse Turner proposed an ordinance to aldermen called the “Animal Cosmetic Surgery & Environment Protection Act.” Turner’s proposal would prohibit declawing, ear cropping and tail docking of animals unless it was certified in writing by a licensed veterinarian and found to be “therapeutically necessary” for the health and well being of the animal. ×
