Mesa football coach Jeremy Hathcock is new to the school and its football program.
But as the 2025 high school football season kicks off Friday, Mesa’s field and program maintains a long-held connection to his football heart.

In his playing days at Blue Ridge High School, Hathcock was a part of three state championship teams, including the 1990 3A title game played at Mesa High.
During the same era, former head coach Jim Rattay led Mesa to its most successful run since the early 1960’s.
“My high school coach (Paul Moro) was one of coach Rattay’s best friends, so I had a lot of respect for him and what he did with the Mesa program,” Hathcock said.
