To bolster the availability and access to affordable rentals in the city, Fairbanks Neighborhood Housing Services (FNHS) has launched a new program to rehabilitate older or vacant properties.
Nadine Winters, FNHS’s executive director, said the organization received $2 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the Rasmuson Foundation. The program will provide grants of up to $50,000 to owners of vacant or blighted properties.
“The hope is we can take care of two things: get quality rentals on the market and take care of some of the vacant or blighted properties in the city,” Winters told the News-Miner.
