MARTELLE, Iowa (KCRG) - Small, outdoor food pantries are going up across parts of Jones County. It’s part of a new collaboration between the American Heart Association, HeartCorps and other community organizations

HeartCorps and other community organizations are working towards addressing food insecurity particularly in rural Iowa.

The food pantries will increase access to nutritious and affordable food. It also benefits individuals who live in areas that lack nearby grocery stores.

Many families in rural Iowa struggle to access healthy food, often resulting in them having to rely on convenience stores or fast food.
