The Delaware Forest Service is using a controlled burn near Clayton to put out a smoldering hay fire.
The Forest Service is being assisted by the Delaware Department of Agriculture, the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the Clayton Fire Company.
A smoke warning has been issued in the Clayton area because of a smoldering hay bale fire, but state and local fire crews are working on the problem.
A fire involving about 200 hay bales was discovered on the morning of Aug. 27 in the 6800 block of Millington Road (Route 6) just west of Clayton town limits, in the field next to Hanover Foods.
The Clayton Fire Company responded and consulted with state agencies.
