LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - Repairs at the Nebraska State Pentitentiary are moving foward.
The roof of a large part of the area housing inmates was ripped off during the Aug. 9 storm that hit the capital city. Nearly 400 inmates were moved to temporary housing: 250 of them moved into the gym inside the penititentiary, and teh rest were moved to facilities in Omaha and Tecumseh.
Authorities told First Alert 6 on Thursday that the roof repairs are complete, and it has been sealed. Work on the damaged interior dormatories is also underway.
A spokesperson with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services said they hope to have the repaired housing units at least partially occupied by Sept. 15.
