ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - One of baseball’s most prolific switch hitters who played for the Atlanta Braves from mid-2007 to July 2008 is running for Congress in Texas.

In a Thursday morning social media post, Mark Teixeira announced he is running as a Republican for Texas’ open 21st congressional seat. It was formerly held by U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, who is running for attorney general in the Lone Star state.

Current Attorney General Ken Paxton is running for a Texas U.S. Senate seat.
