BOSTON (WWLP) - A Minnesota woman, formerly from Holliston, Massachusetts, has been arrested for allegedly fraudulently receiving over $100,000 in emergency rental assistance funds intended for COVID-19 relief.

In a news release by the Department of Justice, 45-year-old Yvonette Joseph was arrested on Tuesday and charged with theft of government money. She is expected to be in Boston federal court at a later date.

In 2021, Congress established the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program to help low-income households cover rent and other housing expenses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Joseph allegedly received funds from the California Department of Housing & Community Development after applications identified her as a landlord in Los Angeles.
