Former New York Yankees slugger Mark Teixeira wants to run for Congress in Texas’ 21st District, and he already has a plan in place.
A three-time MLB All-Star and 2009 World Series champion, Teixeira, who is running as a Republican, will attempt to replace Chip Roy, the current officeholder who won’t seek re-election and will instead attempt to become Texas’ Attorney General.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, and attending Georgia Tech University, he spent most of his career with the New York Yankees, although he was drafted by the Texas Rangers.
Teixeira, a former power-hitting first baseman for the Texas Rangers, filed paperwork to run for the District on Thursday morning and later announced his bid on social media. He made it clear that he is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump.
