ATHENS, Ala. ( WAFF ) - State leaders are still hopeful that the White House will announce Space Command is coming to Huntsville.

In recent weeks, Congressman Dale Strong and Senator Tommy Tuberville have expressed confidence that Space Command will be coming to Alabama.

Gov. Kay Ivey is also feeling good about Space Command coming to Alabama. She says she’s already been working with The White House and is confident that it’s only a matter of time.

“We’re counting on it coming here,” she said. “We’ve been in touch with President Trump and his staff, and we are very optimistic that it will soon be officially announced that Space Command is coming to Huntsville.”

During the final days of Trump’s first term, he announced Space Command would move to Huntsville.
