With one win in the past two years, and no Division I season with more than six victories, the University of Northern Colorado football team has a lot of work to do on the field.

At the same time, the program’s past 19 years in Division I could mean there’s nothing to prove.

Third-year Bears head coach Ed Lamb, the coaching staff and players don’t see it that way. Not at all. Lamb says the opposite as UNC opens its 2025 season this weekend at Nottingham Field. UNC hosts Division II Chadron State at 1 p.m. Saturday, the first game of a 12-game regular season.
