SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A Branson man admitted in federal court today to evading more than $825,000 in taxes between 2013 and 2024.
Burton Cummings, 43, pleaded guilty before U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Willie Epps, Jr., to one count of tax evasion, failure to pay over taxes owed to the United States, according to a U.S. Department of Justice press release.
Cummings, a former business owner, failed to pay his income taxes for all years except 2015 and now owes the United States $1.6 million in taxes, interest, and penalties.
According to a plea agreement, Cummings admitted to lying to IRS Revenue Officers by claiming he had no income, while submitting false forms and collection statements to avoid paying taxes. The release said he failed to file tax returns for multiple years and withdrew la
