STEUBENVILLE, OH — Bishop Edward M. Lohse, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Steubenville, has released a statement in response to the mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

“We are deeply saddened by the shooting that took place Aug. 27 at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis,” Bishop Lohse said. “Such an act of violence against children, the most innocent among us, is especially heinous, made even more so by the fact that they were worshiping at Mass.”

Two children were killed and 17 others injured when a gunman, identified by police as 23-year-old Robin Westman, opened fire during a morning Mass. The shooter died by suicide, according to Minneapolis police.
