Anti-smoking advocates want money spent on cessation programs, including for vaping
Alberta will receive $783 million this fiscal year in a cost-recovery settlement with three tobacco companies but the UCP government it can’t yet say that money will be spent.
The deal worth $32.5 billion nationally to be paid out over 20 years is thought to be the largest settlement in Canadian history and will eventually provide $3.1 billion to Alberta.

And while some provinces have indicated how their share will be earmarked, the provincial government said that hasn’t been decided.
“How these funds will ultimately be allocated is still to be determined,” stated the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services in an email Thursday.
