PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- After three years at Peoria’s Metro Centre, The Popcorn Shoppe is packing up and moving Downtown.
Owner Matt George said the decision was not easy but came after repeated frustrations with new plaza ownership and watching longtime Metro Centre businesses close.
The Metro Centre, originally family-owned, was sold in 2024 to AZT Corporation, a Dallas-based company. George says that the change in ownership made doing business more difficult.
“They want to nickel and dime us to death. I mailed a check on September 30th… They got it on October 6th. It was supposed to be there by October 5th… Then they wrote me an $80 late fee. That was not a good start, and it only keeps going downhill from there,” George said.
The Popcorn Shoppe’s last day at Metro Centre will be Sat
